Position
Summary:
Shelter Services Coordinators conduct intakes for new shelter guests, enroll them into appropriate services, assist and support guests during their stay at the shelter, assist them to generate and work on goals, connect them to community resources.

We support you in supporting others How You Make An Impact:
Conduct intakes and assessments for all new shelter guests Engage with all shelter guests to ensure they understand their shelter rights and responsibilities Help mediate and de-escalate conflicts Connect shelter guests to resources and services necessary to meet their health, housing, and income goals.
Collaborate with Abode Housing Services Coordinators that have been assigned to shelter guests to provide additional support toward the end of getting the shelter guest housed.
Assist participants, who are not yet assigned to a Housing Services Coordinator, to obtain a housing focused mindset by setting housing goals, discovering and addressing potential barriers, creating landlord communication strategies, and gearing conversations toward getting participants housed.
Assist shelter guests, who are not yet assigned to a Housing Services Coordinator, to complete housing applications, get on affordable housing wait lists, pay application fees, identify and understand housing choices, and accompany them on housing interviews and apartment viewings.
Help shelter guests to obtain phones, set up email addresses, create online accounts to obtain resources and benefits when necessary, and manage their professional communications to ensure an important email or message is not overlooked.
Participate in resident matters that are disciplinary in nature by participating in multiple disciplinary team (MDT) meetings supporting behavioral contracts when necessary.
Establish relationships with different social service providers in Napa and provide appropriate linkages with services for mental health, housing, substance recovery, physical health care, educational programs, financial assistance, employment, housing, advocacy, socialization activities and other services.
Support residents to enroll into housing programs when appropriate; communicate program requirements and expectations to guests throughout the process.
Maintain excellent case notes in the HMIS database as well keep your files and folders up-to-date and organized.
Create specific and measurable goals with shelter guests, who are not yet enrolled in a housing program, making sure they are rooted in their unique strengths.
Center regular client meetings around these goals to make sure the individual stays focused on their goals.
Assist shelter guests, when necessary, to get to important meetings.
Other duties as assigned.
How You Meet
Qualifications:
BA/BSW preferred; MSW is a big plus.
At least 2 years working with people experiencing homelessness and/or struggling with behavioral healthcare needs required.
Experience providing services to individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health and/or substance abuse, and trauma.
Understanding of housing programs for low-income individuals, special needs populations, and families.
An understanding of trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, harm-reduction, housing first, and de-escalation.
Knowledge of the Coordinated Entry system.
Reliable transportation along with valid and current CA Driver's license and insurance is required.
Bi-lingual a plus.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
